COVID-19 has turned all our lives upside down in different ways. As social gatherings have been put to a halt, it isn’t too surprising that big life events, such as weddings or Mitzvahs are being canceled as well.  Unfortunately, there isn’t a handbook on how to reschedule a wedding due to a pandemic. But wherever there is a problem, there is a solution peaking around the corner.

To help you prepare for what you should do, make sure to follow the news closely and maintain an open conversation with your vendors and guests.  As the landscape surrounding the virus is continuously changing, so will your vendors cancellation/reschedule policies. Consider rescheduling before canceling completely. But most importantly, keep in constant communication with them so you understand your options.

Here are some vendors you should keep in mind:

  • Save the Date, Invitations, Party Favors with your Invitation Source

  • Venue

  • DJ/MC

  • Photographer

  • Florist

  • Event Planner

  • Caterers

  • Day of Coordinator

Communicate with a new Save The Date as quickly as possible, but keep the card light, positive and informative so it does its job.

Examples of lines you might use:

  • In lieu of the situation, we’re changing our date so we can celebrate safely.

  • Because of the current climate, we’re changing the date to ensure everyone’s safety. We want the only Corona at our wedding to be the beer!

If you don’t want to wait another day to get married, consider eloping and celebrating with friends and family at a later date.

You can send a new Save the Date that says:

  • Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have decided to elope and we’re changing the date of our wedding celebration.

  • We didn’t want to wait another day to get married, but unfortunately, we will have to wait another day (or two) to celebrate with you! Due to COVID-19 we decided to elope and are changing the date of our reception.

Don’t forget to update your wedding website with the new dates as soon as possible.
